Sarah's 2016 Mission Trip to Costa Rica
Organized by: Sarah Williams
EVENT DATE Jun 01, 2016
Hello everyone! I have recently made the exciting decision to go on a student mission trip with my church (Floris UMC) to Alajuela, Costa Rica. The purpose of this trip is to help with construction on both a training center and an orphanage as well as teach vacation Bible school to local under resourced children. We will also be building relationships with the people that we have the amazing opportunity to serve. The team that I am a part of is composed of High School students and adult leaders. The United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) organization supports our efforts and help make sure we have meaningful work to do while we are there. I am especially excited to be a part of this trip because I know what a difference it will make in not only my life, but the lives of so many. Last year when I went on this trip for the first time, I was amazed by the experience that I had. My favorite part of the trip from last year was meeting all of the children. When we hosted vacation Bible school, the room was packed from wall to wall with children who wanted to experience God and learn about how much he loves them and will continue to love them no matter what. I grew close with many of the children as I would try my best to talk to them in Spanish, paint their nails, give them piggyback rides, play soccer with them, or, my favorite, teach them about the unconditional love of God. The children in Costa Rica taught me what it means to love God with every inch of your heart and to trust that he will always have your back, even when times are hard. I made so many wonderful friends during my week in Costa Rica last year, and I would love the opportunity to go experience the light that these children bring to everyone they meet again. During this mission trip, I also feel that God will use me as a leader among my peers. Many of my peers from school, church, and various other activities will be traveling to Costa Rica with me, and I am so happy to get the opportunity to grow closer to them! If I do embark on this journey, my specific task will be to be a small group leader and facilitator between my peers. This is such an amazing opportunity because it will really give me a chance to grow so much closer to God through my peers, and to encourage them to grow closer to Him as well. I hope that through my leadership and compassion, I will be able to be a light within the group to ensure that everyone feels comfortable, happy, and loved. I cannot accomplish this task alone, so please join me with your prayers. I am praying specifically that I will raise all funds needed, I will work hard, and that I will be able to be the hands and feet of Christ for all people during my mission. I am asking you to also be a part of this mission trip by investing in my life and in the lives of the people I reach in Alajuela, Costa Rica. During the next couple of months, I will be working very hard to raise the finances to go on this mission trip. The deadline for raising funds for my trip is June 1st. Any amount you give will be greatly appreciated. I need to raise $1,000. I am asking many of my friends and family members to prayerfully consider giving $20 to $25 towards this trip, but anything makes a difference if you are not able to contribute that amount. If I am able to achieve this goal I would be most grateful. If you would like to be a financial contributor you may pay with a check or on this website. If you decide to write a check, please make all checks payable to Floris UMC. Please put Costa Rica Trip and Sarah Williams on the memo line of the check. You can send all donations to Floris UMC, 13600 Frying Pan Rd., Herndon VA, 20171 (Attn: Donita Dickerson). If you have any questions or comments, you can get a hold of me at email@example.com. Thank you so much for your consideration. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated! God Bless You!
