Sarah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2010 at the age of 4. The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi quickly became an integral part of our krewe! The helped ensure that we could afford supplies while we went through red tape with the insurance company, provided training for day care and summer programs, and provided seminars for us to learn how to better manage this disease. Camp Kandu gave Sarah a group of friends that have to prick their fingers 8-10 times a day and count carbs just like she does. We were not alone in this disease.
We also discovered how many other people we had in our krewe - parents at school who contacted us to make sure Sarah had something to eat/drink at class parties, vbs leaders who sent us a menu of the planned snacks so we could carb count them ahead of time, friends that keep an eye on Sarah and tell her to check her bg if they they think something is wrong. The list goes on and on.
And, yes, people who walk with us and/or make a donation to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, an organization that is part of the krewe for so many people with diabetes across Mississippi!
