Hi, this is Sarah Busansky. In May, I am turning 18 and graduating from Plant High School with the Class of 2017. Instead of birthday or graduation gifts, I am hosting a fundraising party for Dream Oaks Camp located in Sarasota, Florida. I’m asking my friends and family (and maybe even a few strangers) to donate money to send 18 people to camp this summer. That’s about $25 a person for approximately 468 people (NO PROBLEM, right??) For my 16th birthday, I raised $4000 for the camp and I’m Going Big or Going Home this year! Dream Oaks Camp provides a wonderful opportunity for kids with disabilities ages 7-17 to experience summer camp with activities like canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts and so much more. Kids can just be themselves and meet new friends. Did I mention I use a wheelchair? I have cerebral palsy but that’s not important. What is important, is that I like to have fun and experience new things just like any other kid. I’ve been attending Dream Oaks camp every summer since I was 8 years old. When my Mom dropped me off that first summer, she was very nervous. Then she met my counselors and the nursing staff and Camp Director and saw the fully accessible cabins and realized I’d found my second home for the summer. Since then, I’ve made tons of lifelong friends and decided to start raising money for other camps that may not be able to afford a week’s stay at camp. I will be attending the University of North Florida in Jacksonville this summer so I won’t be able to go to camp, but I would love it if you would consider making whatever donation you can afford to give an unforgettable camp experience to someone else. Dream Oaks has changed my life and given me the confidence to go after my dreams!
