When I volunteered for Knock Foundation in Tanzania earlier this year, two things happened:
1. I fell in love with the kids at Matumaini orphanage and I decided that I would do everything in my power to help them secure a bright future. ( I mean, look at them in that music video... how could I not?!)
2. I saw Mt. Kilimanjaro and I promised myself that I would return to climb to the summit.
So now I'm combining these two goals into one epic mission and I'm hoping you can help!
One of the most important things I learned while volunteering earlier this year is that education is truly the key to success in Tanzania. Knock Foundation has been providing education in several different forms: by offering school scholarships, feeding students school lunch, leading seminars on HIV/AIDS and healthy living practices, and purchasing much-needed books and other supplies.
Knock's goal is to continue expanding upon these educational activities in order to give more and more students the best opportunities to learn and succeed.
Scholarships: Giving the gift of education to students otherwise unable to afford school. One year of private secondary school and all other requirements cost about $1,500.
Lunch Programs: Providing students with the nutrients and energy needed to focus in the classroom (may be the only meal they eat in a day). $15 feeds a child lunch for an entire year.
HIV/AIDS & Healthy Living Seminars: Debunking myths and empowering people with life-saving knowledge and skills. A seminar costs about $6 per person.
My climb is scheduled for February 15th, 2013. I've begun training and it is NOT easy :)
I've included donation options below if you' d like to sponsor my climb per foot. The more money I have behind me the more motivated I'll be to reach the summit! But ANY amount you can contribute will be most appreciated. All donations are tax-deductible.
My goal is to raise $10,000. Thank you so much for your support!
