BENEFITING: Sarcoma Foundation of America
My husband Greg, was diagnosed with Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP) in October, 2012. His sarcoma originated in his right upper thigh.
Greg first noticed a small bump in his early thirties, but thought nothing of it since he did not show any discoloration or symptoms. He had his physician take a look at it and referred him to a surgeon. The surgeon said it was “scar tissue and Greg could have it removed at any time since it wasn’t bothering him”. In October 2012, Greg decided to schedule the procedure. At the 2-week follow up office visit, you can imagine our shock when the surgeon informed us that “it wasn’t scar tissue, but a tumor, and Greg would have to undergo surgery to remove more tissue and fat”.
In January 2013, Greg underwent a biopsy for another lump found on his right shoulder blade. At the 2-week follow up visit, the findings were stated as "scar tissue".
Please join me in raising awareness, educating the world about this rare and deadly disease and most importantly, finding successful treatments for a cure in our time.
