BENEFITING: Community Boating, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Feb 08, 2014
When I started to think about what I was going to do for my Bat Mitzvah Project, I felt like I wanted to do something in honor of my Great Uncle Malcolm who passed away a few years ago. I regret never having had the chance to meet Uncle Malcolm, who lived in the town of Newquay in Cornwall, England. I've heard my grandmother talk about him a lot, especially how much he loved to sail. When I asked my grandmother about her brother, I found out a boatload of things! She told me that he was a very accomplished sailor, that he usually captained, and won many sailing cups. She also told me, "The kind of sailing he did was challenging but there was nothing he enjoyed more than to race his 33' sailboat (which had red sails) in the rough seas around Cornwall. During the last few years of his life, he and some friends would sail to a little coastal village in France and have dinner with the mayor and all the villagers." To honor Uncle Malcolm and his love of sailing, I have decided to raise money for a sailing organization in Boston called Community Boating. The mission of Community Boating is to provide "sailing for all" regardless of physical or economic circumstances. The program enables low income kids and also people with disabilities to experience what Uncle Malcolm so loved to do. The money I will raise will go to scholarship memberships for kids from low income families and for services for people with special needs. Thank you so much for helping me support this cause!!!!!
