Saul: The Hardworking Family Man
Organized by: Fordham Ram Battalion
My name is Fletcher. I'm a college student in NYC, and I'm on a mission that I think you can help me out with. In my 3.5 years in the city, I've had the pleasure of getting to know Saul, a hardworking family man from Mexico. Over 5 years ago, Saul made the difficult decision to leave his wife and two kids at home in Mexico for a job at a local deli on the UpperWest Side of Manhattan in New York City. Saul works late nights and early mornings on the third shift, with the end goal of providing a better quality of life for his family. He makes just enough to support himself, and the rest goes back to support his family in Mexico. In about two weeks, on December 29, Saul gets to go home to visit his family for the first time in 5 years.
Saul's story hit me in the feelings pretty hard. I absolutely cannot imagine going 5 years without seeing my family. His story made me realize how we often take our loved ones for granted, and how lucky some of us are to be able to spend time with them every year. If having a family is a luxury you have been blessed with, be intentional about spending quality time with them over this holiday season. There are many people out there who aren't quite so fortunate.
Anyways, initially, I thought how wonderful it would be to provide Saul with some extra spending money to spoil his wife and kids when he goes home for the New Year. However, I'd like to expand the horizons, and raise money for Saul to not only make his trip home a bit more enjoyable, but to fund more regular trips home to his family in Mexico so that it doesn't have to be 5 more years. Saul doesn't know that I'm trying to do this for him, but I know he would much appreciate anything you could afford to give. I leave to go home and visit my family on December 22, so try to get your donations in by the 21st so that I can get it to Saul before I leave. Anything raised after that will go to him at the end of January. Thanks for your time.
And a quick reminder, we've already been given the ultimate gift.
