Savannah's Mission Trip to Haiti
Organized by: Mariah Merrefield
EVENT DATE Oct 10, 2015
Dear Friends and Family, When we started homeschooling in the fall, we began reading a book called Window on the World. It is a book about the third-world countries and people groups all over the world who don’t even have their basic needs met. I was really surprised and touched by the stories we read each morning about children my age who have to work to find food for their families and who don’t even have decent shelter or medical care. It’s so different than how I live. We also read a book on Gladys Aylward, a missionary to China. She changed the way that the Chinese live today and brought the love of Jesus to many people. Both books made me want to become a missionary. I am so excited to have the opportunity to go on my first mission trip to Haiti in October with Haiti Cheri Harvest Life Ministries. Haiti Cheri is an organization that teaches the people of Haiti about Jesus. They teach them through schools (which is good because they learn about Jesus and get their education as well as meals). They also help through hospitals and medical clinics. Hospitals in Haiti are not like hospitals here. The patient’s family has to bring the medicine, bedding, and just about everything else a patient needs. They usually don’t have the ability to provide these things, and people die frequently of illnesses that could be easily treated. That makes me really sad. Haiti Cheri helps the families that don’t have that stuff. While on this trip I will be taking part in church services there, helping people come to know Jesus, helping to build and supply schools and medical facilities, and participating in rural mobile medical clinics. I am also really looking forward to meeting the children that live in the villages where we will be ministering and playing with them. In order to go on this week-long trip to Haiti, I will need to raise about $4,000. That money will be used for the costly transportation fees to get to Haiti for both me and my mother (who will be going with me), as well as transportation, food, supplies, and projects on the mission trip itself. Would you please consider helping me to raise the funds for my trip to bring aid and the love of Jesus to the people of Haiti? Any donation you could make would go 100% toward our trip and to helping in Haiti.
