Save the American Dream
Organized by: Rafael Musikul
Many of us believe the American Dream is home ownership. And for many of us, a home will be the single largest purchase we make during our lifetime and, quite possibly, the only asset we own that appreciates in value. Also, for many of us, the equity in our homes will provide opportunities to enter the middle class or stay in the middle class, an income group we know is disappearing in America. But the American Dream is disappearing too. There is evidence that confirms home prices are rising artificially due to real estate investors purchasing homes for the sole purpose of renting them out to make a profit and this drastically reduces the home inventory available. Indeed, simple supply and demand tells us that the less inventory available the higher prices rise. Clearly, every working American and family should be able to buy a home at a reasonable and un-inflated price. The goal of this fundraiser will be to disseminate information to home sellers about the consequences of selling to an investor instead of a true homeowner and to persuade them not to sell to investors. Additionally, proceeds from this fundraiser will go to building and maintaining a website to spread this information on a greater scale, research, and advertising and marketing costs. We need to stop investors from owning a dozen or more properties while there are millions of American families suffering and living in apartments or renting a home.
