BENEFITING: Pike Historic Preservation Inc
In September 1926, the Zebulon Elementary School, located west of the downtown Zebulon square in Pike County,GA, opened its doors and for over 50 years educated many of the citizens living in and around Pike County, GA. So many of us have stories of our time in that building. Regardless of if you attended this school or not, it is a local treasure that must not be lost. In the late 1970s, the building educated its last class and the building was shuttered. In recent years, holes have begun to form on the roof and a portion of the roof and northwest wall has collapsed. The good news is that a lot of the building remains is in fair/good condition, including the old auditorium which still has amazing acoustics and original curtains on the stage. The Old Zebulon School Committee has secured an architect and engineer to advise on the status of the building and the report notes that the building is in remarkably good shape but needs a new roof now or next year the report will be vastly different. This treasure must be saved for the community to: - Provide a multi-use facility for the arts, retail, office and other uses in the downtown area - Save a historic structure that provided a safe space to educate thousands of students in its 50 plus year history. - Show proof of the City’s commitment to downtown development. - Renovate and Re-purpose the building that will then act as a catalyst for the further revitalization of the West Square/Adams Street neighborhood, which has been identified by several planning studies as important to the continued growth of Zebulon. Our fundraising is a three phased process with approximately $500,000 in each phase: - Phase 1 - Raise the Roof and Stabilize (By December 31, 2016) Be one of our "Head of the Class Heros" if you donate early. - Phase 2 - Interior Infrastructure (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) - Phase 3 - Finishings - Getting her ready for her new tenants. Our goal is to have the roof on by December 31, 2016 and then the rest completed within 18-24 months based on funding. In our first most critical phase we must get a new roof on to weatherize and stabilize and we must complete before the end of 2016. Please help us by donating any amount. A generous anonymous donor has offered a match up to $50,000 to any donation received by December 31, 2016. We will honor all who donate between September 2016 and December 31, 2016 as a "Head of the Class Hero". We will honor all donors by the following: $1 - $99 Silver Stars $100-$499 Gold Stars $500-$999 Miss Lida's List $1000-$4,999 Teacher's Pet $5000 - $9,999 Principal's Award $10,000+ Honor Roll Please help us by donating today!
