Save A DJ's Life: Fundraiser For John Suraci
Organized by: Tommy Spero
It's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life for me.
We are launching this campaign for John Suraci today as it is his Re-Birthday. Day Zero. 02/17/16.
As I write this, he is getting a Stem Cell Transplant from Cord Blood to rebuild his immune system and replace the cancerous cells brought on by Leukemia. It has been a long road to today.
On October 2nd 2015, John's life changed forever. Just when things had really seemed to be going in his favor career wise . A great job in music promotion, regular DJ gigs at some of NYC's great clubs, and having his Remix of Demi Lovato's 'Cool for The Summer' get picked to be the official remix on her album. But a routine blood test lead to a doctors appointment that found he had an aggressive form of Leukemia, AML (acute myleoid leukemia). He was immediately rushed to the hospital and began treatment. He left his apartment that morning and has never been back.
"Everyone has a plan, until you get punched in the face."
- Mike Tyson
It has been a grueling few months for John. He lost his apartment, had to take a leave from work and put his music career on hold. His only option was to fight this horrible disease. He is incredibly strong and we have watched him battle back his cancer into remission, which has brought us to today. The day it all begins again for John.
From John on Facebook: So today's the big day. My new Re-Birthday. Double cord blood transplant about to be my own. Please say an extra prayer for me today. Thank you all so much for all the love, prayers and support. I really do love you guys. Oh, and since it is my birthday you should probably be buying me gifts too. Lol ;) See you soon. XoXo - J
Now John is facing the battle of his life. Day Zero means he has no immunity and it has to develop from the cells he is being given. This is no easy road. He will be in the hospital recovering and very vulnerable for the next 6 weeks. When he get's out he will need to have daily care and people around him to take him to regular dr visits and tests.
Here's how you can help Save A DJ's Life:
Those of us closest to John are seeking out a place for him to live and helping to find him an aide. In addition we need to really set him up for a successful recovery by having enough funds to cover all these expenses until he can get back on his feet. We want to remove these worries so he can simply focus on getting better and getting back to the music.
Please give what you can and share this campaign with as many people as possible. Every dollar matters, and he needs alot. Be creative! Any and all ideas for fundraising are welcome. Help to find corporate or major sponsors to donate would be huge.
We have a few things in store that we will be announcing soon, and we can wait to share them with you.
John ( and all of us on Team Suraci) want to thank you for the love, prayers and support.
