Save a kidney - save a life
Organized by: Anais Halftermeyer
While volunteering in a public clinic in Guatemala, a 17 year old girl came in with a kidney stone. The ultrasound showed that the stone travelled into her urethra. This is blocking most of her urine and it is going back up into her kidney, which will eventually cause kidney failure. the procedure to remove the stone is $1700 (Q10 000). Her family does not have the money to pay for it. You can live with one kidney but since she is only 17 this leaves a lot of time for future complications in her life. If she does end up getting kidney failure, a donor kidney is possible but this would cost even more money and is not always successful.
