Save Becky's House
Organized by: Becky Sue
Hi! Let me get straight to the point… My mortgage company requires $2009.00 from me before the end of the month (June 2015) or they will start foreclosure proceedings.
Now that that’s out of the way, let me tell you how I got here. In September 2009, I got divorced and bought a house for me and my two children. It was a struggle getting by on my own, but I managed. Barely.
In March 2011, I ended up in the middle of a 4-car collision on the freeway after leaving work to go pick up my daughter from play rehearsal. My little Prius got squished between a school bus (empty of children) and a pick-up truck. Thankfully, my injuries were limited to sore muscles, but my car was totaled. The insurance company required the rental car to be returned well before any settlement had been negiated. I did not have much time to properly research the purchase of a new car and was very naïve about how the insurance reimbursement would work. The accident was not my fault, so I assumed I should be able to replace my car with a comparable one. I ended up losing thousands of dollars and had to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy in August 2012.
I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in March 2013 and endured two months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I continued working the entire time except when I had to be at the hospital because disability pay would not cover my mortgage, bankruptcy payments to the trustee, utilities, food, etc. It was a very difficult time, to say the least.
Last summer, my beloved cat, who had been my best friend and main comforter during my own cancer, got sick with an injection site sarcoma. It was a traumatic experience watching him fade away.
I have continued to struggle with my bills. The Chapter 13 plan does not allow for life’s little circumstances that pop up along the way. Despite my efforts to keep on track, I have slowly fallen off, and now the mortgage company is making things even more difficult.
I would be most grateful to anyone who helps me out. Help me get back on track and keep moving forward. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.
Here’s a little about me if you are interested: I enjoy yoga, running, sewing, and baking cookies. I have been working for the same company for eight years and only left my previous job because the company closed their doors. I have been on the leadership committee of our local American Cancer Society Relay for Life, I was my company’s team captain for the American Heart Association Heart Mini, and I am a regular blood donor.
