BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF THE BERNARD BIOLOGICAL FIELD STATION
This project is very near and dear to me, as a student of Harvey Mudd College, one of the Claremont Colleges. We are lucky enough to have a natural reserve--the Bernard Field Station--in our backyard. For decades, the BFS has been a valued teaching and learning resource. It's home to indigenous SoCal plant life, including Artemisia californica (California sagebrush). The fauna is also incredibly diverse, everything from bobcats to egrets! Unfortunately, the college administrators are trying to develop the land and have already made plans to build a parking lot and school of public health. We need to protect the BFS!
