BENEFITING: Parrots International
About Parrots International: Parrots International is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the conservation of endangered parrot species and improving the welfare of both companion parrots and parrots in the wild. They are committed to remaining non-partisan, above "eco-politics" and working cooperatively with other conservation organizations for the maximum benefit of the birds.
While I myself can not afford large or frequent monetary donations, I thought I would try to fundraise in honor of my own rescued bird, Charlie. Charlie is a Blue Crown Conure who was kept in deplurable conditions for more than 20 years. Birds can live to be over 60 years old, depending on the species. Charlie was kept locked in a cage that was much too small, saw little to no sunlight, and was fed sunflower seeds.
I was able to rescue Charlie from his conditions after he suffered a fall in his cage and broke his back. His owner no longer wanted him, or the expense of a vet. Charlie will remain paralyzed for the rest of his life as a result, but has otherwise thrived in a new caring environment, with proper nutrition and a special set up for his condition. There are more than thousands of pet birds in the U.S. alone that are probably suffering neglect due to ignorance, and even more birds in the wild that are endangered or close to it due to destruction of habitat and exportation for use as breeders or companions in the pet trade.
