Wednesday morning it happened again. Two boats capsized leaving 14 dead on the way to the greek island of Kos. Drowned bodies of children. Not the first time and not the last time. But we can help and try to change this.
Last year the EU cut its Mediterranean search and rescue budget by two thirds. This year the death toll of those trying to cross the Med is three times higher than last year. Migrant Offshore Aid Station is a privately-funded search and rescue operation which has saved thousands of lives. This year they have teamed up with Médecines Sans Frontiéres (Doctors Without Borders) to further increase their effectiveness. please help them by donating what you can.
All donations will be given to MOAS. MOAS consists of international humanitarians, security professionals, medical staff, and experienced maritime officers who have come together to help prevent further catastrophes at sea. They are passionate about the plight of those seeking a better life, free of violence, despite the dangers they face.
I have seen the news and shared articles on facebook. Just like everyone else. But my heart feels heavy and I feel like I have to do more. More than complaining about how little the world is doing and more than expressing my disappointment on facebook. This is one step. Let us try to get together and help our fellow humans. Even with one dollar it would make a difference. I dont expect huge amounts. But if everyone just gave a little of what they have even if it is 1 dollar that would at least be something more than sharing an article.
