Win a House Concert & #SaveErnie the Retro RV
Organized by: Pea Pickin' Hearts
5 Days to WIN a House Concert!
April 20, 2016
EVENT DATE Apr 25, 2016
(scroll through the pics for the video) Jon & Rachel from the Pea Pickin' Hearts, here. Because of YOU, the best fans on the planet, we get to spend our days traveling & singing our tunes of love & loss & laughter. We recently decided to buy a RV to call home while we are on the road with Oscar, the littlest Pea (our son) & the furry Pea Pepper (our rescue mutt). We wanted our road experience to reflect our lives --happy & compact, funny & a little backwards. We were dedicated to not accruing more debt, and we knew the RV needed to be able to make it 2.5 miles up to the the top of our Gatlinburg mountain home. The criteria was simple:
- JUST big enough for 3 people, equipment & a dog
- No active water leaks and
- Mechanically sound.
We drove hours to NC, SC, GA, VA and the corners of TN in search of our new home. Finally, in Tullahoma, TN, we met Richard who was the second owner of a 1986 27' Class A Allegro motorhome. Ugly. No, it is really ugly inside, we promise. But, it had a new transmission, new 70K mile tires, new brakes, new shocks, and so many more "news". Richard reminded us so much of Rachel's father that it seemed fated. We brought the home and went to work updating plumbing leaks and mouse-nibbled wiring. We named him "Ernie" in homage to Tennessee Ernie Ford whose famous line "Bless your pea-pickin' heart" inspired our name. On route from Pineville, WV to Winston-Salem, NC, Ernie started making a horrendous sound and our oil pressure dropped to zero within 2 minutes or less. Ernie "threw a rod" and requires a new engine. We've found a rebuilt engine in Seattle for $2771 (w/shipping) & the installation will cost $3325 (many thanks to the wonderful folks at R&C Towing and Repair in Wytheville, VA). Our friend Vince is coming to rescue us, our equipment and our dog, but, we need $6K to get Ernie out of jail and back on the road.
Singing together for folks all over the country is really all we've ever really wanted to do. We have tour dates all over the country this summer (from Vermont to Texas) that will have to be cancelled if we can't #SaveErnie. We need your help. No amount is too small. We chose CrowdRise.com because they only charge 3% in fees (most sites charge at least 8%) plus the goals and deadlines are flexible. As a "thank you", we are going to print #SaveErnie bumperstickers as donation rewards. You can email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) to get a sticker for helping to #SaveErnie.
Thank you for all the love you have shown... and for helping put us back on the road!
XOXO Rachel & Jon
Our efforts continue to #saveErnie, our persnickety retro RV, who is still stranded in Wytheville, VA while he is being repaired. GREAT NEWS! We had a donor contact us & volunteer to pay most of the cost of Ernie's engine, so now we have to cover the installation. Please note that we adjusted our fundraising goal to $3800 (down from $6,100) to reflect the news. We have about one week to go before Ernie is well again.
Because we are touring the country this summer, we can sing for you & as many friends as you can stuff in your house or backyard... almost anywhere in the U.S. (including but not limited to TN, KY, NC, VA, WV, MD, PA, NY, VT, Montreal, IN, OH, IL, MN, ND, MT, ID, WA, CA, AZ, TX, LA & AL.)
THE ONLY RULES: Donate at least $10 & be located within 250 miles of a tour date. (Email us at email@example.com, if you have a question about whether we will be near you this summer!)
DEADLINE: Monday, April 25 at Midnight EST. THE WINNER will be announced on Monday, April 26th via website & social media!
Don't worry, if you have already donated, THANK YOU...you're included in the drawing!
It seems that Ernie is being a bit stubborn, and is not giving up his blown engine easily. As a result, it appears that it could be another week before we get him back. So, we've extended our deadline to Monday, April 25th to raise the funds... and to offer the opportunity to win a house concert! Please keep sharing our campaign with friends & family. We still have about $1500 to go.
XOXO Rachel & Jon, the Peas
