Save Mankwe's Rhino
Team Member: Dan Colborne
I visited this amazing reserve as part of my Ecology degree and was amazed by the hard work and dedication the Mankwe team put into protecting their incredible reserve from poachers.
i had the privilege of spending some time with the beautiful rhino and have been worrying about them ever since given the increase in poaching in Africa to fuel the demand for horn in Vietnam and China.
My my worst fears came to fruition in October last year as we lost three of the rhino as a result of poachers.
I went back out to the reserve in January in response to an emergency plea for help to protect the rhino in the new year and paid for my own flights, and the money raised helped to pay for my food.
Poachers are constantly entering the reserve to kill animals with snares and traps and rhino poachers are all over the area just looking for an opportunity...
Since the Chinese and Vietnamese sent the Javan rhino into extinction a few years ago they have been targeting African rhino with increasing aggression and haste...
The rhino really do have no chance without your help!
Thank you so much!
