Save Mankwe's Rhino
Team Member: MAx Withey
Having just finished 3 months of working as Mankwe's Anti-Poaching Officer I know full well the desperate need Mankwe has for funds required to keep the rhino safe. Although the Anti Poaching Unit (APU) is a good start, it still needs enlarging and upgrading to make it truely effective. Thermal imaging equipment is vital to catch poachers and help locate rhino at night. A new range of spotlights is needed to replace the current ageing ones. The APU camp needs a proper solar installation so that they can charge their own phones etc. (which i had to do myself on a daily basis - expending' valuable fuel and time!). The list goes on....
With no support from the government or other agencies, Mankwe relies and kind donations from private indivduals to ensure the safety of it's rhino. Reserves like Mankwe are the a refuges of the species in this time of crisis for one of the last species of megafuana left on Earth (the other being the rapidly declining elephant). If we lose them Nature will never be the same and future generations will never experience these magnificent animals. This is our watch, so let's make it count!
