Support Minnesota MILE and secure the future of leadership and volunteerism in Minnesota youth.
We are an organization at the brink of having to shut down because of lack of funds (explanation below) and we need your help. We are 100% volunteer driven and are reaching out to Crowdrise community in hopes of helping us get back on our feet as an organization.
We just held our 2014 summer seminar and due to lack of funding this may very well be our last event.
In May of 2012 our organization lost its 501(c)3 due to the changes in the IRS code we were not informed of. We immediately filed an appeal (per the IRS process) and it sat in limbo for over 2 years. In February 2014, through the assistance of Minnesota Senator Franken’s office, we were able to start the process of being re-instated. Finally at the end of April we were re-instated
Minnesota MILE is a 100% volunteer driven organization. As volunteers, we all have regular jobs and try to do the most important part of our role, fundraising, with the limited time we have outside our lives. We all believe that youth are our future and strive every year to develop new youth leaders and promote volunteerism across the state of Minnesota. The one thing all these efforts require is appropriate funding. Prior to our revocation, securing funding for our small non-profit was challenging at its best moments. As most small organizations we are constantly challenged to find new funding sources. We have been able to make it each year, but especially having all of this happen during one of our worst recessions ever, the challenge was already very great to continue. Where it was already challenging, after our revocation fundraising became next to impossible. Our organization has limped along off the generosity of many individuals (including large personal funds from our volunteers) and some organizations, but overall our funding sources have all but been lost.
Now that we have our non-profit status we can once again access some of our traditional funding channels, but after going so long without it, this is going to take time. We are hoping to find a strong community around us to help us reach our funding goal this year of $20,000. This will help get our organization back on its feet and leading in the right direction…so we can continue to lead today’s youth in the right direction as well.
