Save Molly Campaign
Organized by: Nyasha Jacquiline
Molly(27) was diagnosed with chronic glomerulonephritis, a chronic kidney disorder, in July 2013. She is currently in my home country, Zimbabwe, and her doctors have referred her to go to India to have a kidney transplant. Initially, she was treated for chronic joint pains until her health continued to deteriorate prompting the doctors to do more tests. Subsequently, the tests revealed that she was suffering from chronic kidney disease. Since then, she has been on haemodialysis twice weekly at a cost of $1,800 a month.
Considering the economic situation in Zimbabwe, my family and Molly's husband, Dickson, have been struggling to keep up with the medical costs and related expenses. We are currently appealing to the public for funds to cover the medical costs and the travelling expenses. My sister has had to deal with long hours dialysis that are not only painful, but also leave her physically and emotionally drained. Her doctors have advised that a renal transplant is the best option considering her situation. Preliminary tests have shown that my younger sister, Tendai, is a suitable donor. The kidney transplant will cost $15 000. An additional $3 000 is needed for the patient and donor’s 60-day recovery stay in the hospital. Air tickets for the patient, donor, and an accompanying relative cost around $4 500 while accommodation and food will cost $2 500.
Molly is a daughter, a wife, a sister, a friend, and also a devoted mother to her son Tanatswa. She is a young woman who has a promising future ahead of her and she deserves a chance to live her life fully. She is not only a big sister to me, but has also been my best friend and confidant. It hurts me and my family to see her go through this pain ,and yet there is not much we can do anymore. It is painful to see her health deteriorating with each passing day and to always wonder if she is going to be with us the next day or whether she will be able to take care of her son.
Your donation, no matter how small it is, will go a long way in saving Molly's life. Any kind gesture you extend is greatly appreciated. Our hopes and prayers are that Molly gets her health back so that she can live a normal life again.
