I love my town, so it pains me to see old landmark businesses close their doors. I understand how tough it can be, but it bugs me that people don't seem to care, least of all, the locals! Don't people realize that when small businesses die, so does the town and the people! So, I thought in order to help everyone, we need a business model that's BY the people and FOR the people. I started a pop-up space within an old furnature store in my town. I bring in the best teas, coffee, pastries, honey, granola, macaroons, cupcakes, empanadas, jams. And I host trunk shows, children's book readings, local recycling Q&A, mom's group, church groups, and any community based events. I even hosted a touchpad demo by the local Verizon dealer to demo the difference models, and teach parents how to guard and monitor their iPads. The goal is host round table discussions with the local government, land owners, businesses, schools, religious communities, and Moms (I can not overstate the importance of Moms) and all members of a given community to figure put how to preserve their towns, their businesses, and ultimately the people that make up the community. Once this is achieved, we can retrofit this model to Anytown, U.S.A.
