BENEFITING: INTER DISTRICT COMMITTEE FOR PROJECT OCEANOLOGY
Project Oceanology is a non-profit marine education center aimed at making the world of the ocean known to all. Project Oceanology has served approximately 20,000 to 25,000 students each of its 42 years. That means sometime this year Project Oceanology will have served 1,000,000 students. Many of these have been needy students who may have never experienced the sea before. Some of these students have gone on to careers in marine science, but all have hopefully left with a greater understanding, appreciation and love for the world's ocean.
Since 1972 Project Oceanology has been funded by a consortium of local school districts with added funds from state grant programs aimed at underserved populations. Recent budget cutbacks in Connecticut’s Inter-district Grant Program has reduced the number of camps that can be offered to low income students for free or reduced pricing. We want to offer these programs at affordable prices for those who can pay and hopefully for free for those in need. We believe these experiences are important in these student's lives and help the community as a whole.
Our goal for this fundraiser is to build a $1,000,000 endowment that will cover the tuition for low income families and keep our program staffed for the next 42 years regardless of fluctuations in state money. If we could raise $1 for every student served, we will reach that goal.
Please help! Every dollar counts. If you can give more, please do. If your child or if you experienced Project O at no cost, what is the value of that experience? Please give what you can and pay forward that experience.
