BENEFITING: Perinatal Treatment Services
Perinatal Treatment Services (PTS) is a non-profit residential substance abuse treatment facility which has been helping and healing mothers and pregnant women who suffer from substance abuse. PTS helps them 'get back on their feet', brighter, sober and more capable.
Recently we learned that PTS would have to close its doors due to the federal sequestered funding being withdrawn from the center. Over the last week we have been making sure the ladies and children have been placed in safe environments and are experiencing as little stress over the matter as possible.
The staff at PTS do what we do because we feel it is a kind of calling. It's been a roller coaster ride since our Executive Director shared the news and as a group we committed to putting the ladies and children first. None of us want to lose our jobs; we are a team who work well together and enjoy what we do knowing that it is beneficial to the women who come for help. We provide therapeutic child-care, domestic violence information classes, parenting classes, and anger management, as well as clinical chemical dependency counseling. Everything they require for recovery is contained in one location for the 6-month program, and any outside issues that need to be resolved are supported to the best of our ability.
We are basically looking for a sponsor, as to remain open would require a sponsorship of $15-$20 thousand per month. Most of what we do is not funded out of pocket by the ladies (as they come to us in unfortunate circumstances), but comes from other sources.
