BENEFITING: Rainforest Trust
Our world's rainforests are a precious resource that we are losing rapidly to deforestation. The rainforest in Sangihe, Indonesia, is the home to many endangered species endemic to the island. Without our help, it will be lost to imminent deforestation which will result in the extinction of many of these species. Deforestation releases more carbon into the atmosphere per year than the emissions of all the cars and trucks combined and therefore is a huge contributor to climate change.
You can help put a stop to this by donating to the Rainforest Trust, which is trying to raise $46,000 USD to buy a 22,000 acre tract in Sangihe to create a protected reserve. At $2 per acre, your money will go directly towards saving precious rainforest from destruction. Time is of the essence, as much of the rainforest in Sangihe and surrounding areas is cut down every year to make way for palm oil plantations and agriculture. Dollar for dollar, saving an acre of rainforest is one of the most cost-effective ways for an average person to reduce worldwide carbon emmissions.
For a limited time, all donations to this project will be matched by Rainforest Trust 1:1. $36k out of $46k has been raised, so we need to donate $5000 to reach the goal. Before creating this Crowdrise page, Angela and I got the ball rolling by donating $5000, and we are asking for YOUR help to get the project 100% funded.
