THE STORY:

For more than 20 years, SanWild has been rescuing orphaned, injured, neglected and abused wild animals and then, once their health is restored, releasing the animals into the large sanctuary to spend the rest of their life in settings largely free of adverse human impacts. Thousands of animals call SanWild home and rely on funding from generous people to keep them safe.

Not only is the SanWild sanctuary dedicated to the animals in their care, but they are also an active voice against wildlife abuse in South Africa, such as the canned hunting of lions. This horrific industry, with an average of 1200 lions shot as trophies every year, continues to operate despite promises by the government to shut it down.

Humane Society International has been working with SanWild for several years, helping them raise money to feed the lions in their care as well as raise awareness about the canned lion hunting industry in South Africa. Now, more than ever, the Sanctuary needs HSI's help. The cost of running a Sanctuary of this size is immense and the bank has threatened to foreclose on the property if SanWild does not raise enough money to make their mortgage payment by April. If SanWild closes their doors, the reality is that a trophy hunter will purchase the property leaving thousands of animals to an uncertain fate at the hands of a wealthy hunter.

We cannot let this happen. Please donate today and help save SanWild!
