Did you know that 3 to 4 MILLION dogs and cats are euthanized every year in animal shelters across the U.S.? This is one dog or cat killed every 8-10 SECONDS! Sadly, most of these animals are loving, healthy, adoptable animals who simply had the misfortune of not being wanted anymore.
Animal shelters are busting at the seams and are killing fantastic, family dogs simply to make space for the new ones coming in every day. When a dog enters an animal shelter (as a stray, abandoned by their owner, confiscated, etc.), they have an extremely limited time to find a new home. Many dogs are not even made available for public adoption for any number of reasons: too scared, medical issues, too large (yes, size can be a factor!), etc. and are then made what the shelter calls "Rescue Only". In these situations, the public cannot adopt these dogs directly which means this significantly reduces their chances of making it out of the shelter alive. For these dogs, the ONLY chance is to be saved by an animal rescue group.
A typical healthy dog costs hundreds of dollars to save from death (shelter pull fees, vetting, spay/neuter, microchip, flea treatment, food/supplies while in foster care, etc.) and is adopted out by the rescue for approximately a $200 adoption fee. You do the math...this is a losing proposition! And, this is for a perfectly healthy dog with no issues! Many times the dogs have unforseen issues once they get out of the shelter. Some can end up costing the rescue THOUSANDS of dollars before they can be adopted out. Still, the adoption fee is $200. In order to continue saving lives, rescues everywhere need our support!
My husband and I volunteer and foster dogs for The Ark Animal Rescue and they are simply AMAZING! They save SO many lives and primarily focus their efforts on dogs that are hours away from the euthanasia room. They work tirelessly networking dogs, pulling them from shelters, taking them to vet visits, doing meet and greets with potential adopters, etc. in order to give these deserving dogs a second chance at a wonderful life (as well as create a place for the next deserving shelter dog to go!). Without fantastic rescue groups like this, the euthanasia rate would be so much higher than the 3-4 million I previously mentioned. Please join me in helping them continue to do great work by donating to this wonderful cause!
The Ark Animal Rescue is a registered 501(c)3 charity so your donation is tax deductible! And, since the rescue is run by volunteers, 100% OF YOUR DONATION GOES TO THE DOGS!
So, what do you say???? Can we meet this lofty goal of raising $5,000 for this much deserving group? Maybe I'm crazy (I probably am) but I KNOW we can do this together!! And, I will run my butt off for 13.1 miles in December's Holiday Half Marathon just to prove it......let the training begin!!
Thank you for your support! Please share this with all of your friends, coworkers and family and encourage them to support this great cause (while getting a tax write-off, of course :))! I'm going to need ALL the help I can get to meet this goal so please, please, please spread the word!
Thank you again!
PS If you live in Southern California, are passionate about dogs and would like to try fostering, contact Brittany and fill out a foster application at www.thearkanimalrescue.org. Fostering is THE most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. If you are an animal lover like me, you will feel the same! Fostering saves lives!!
