The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is a not-for-profit conservation organization existing solely to restore the Chesapeake Bay—North America’s largest estuary and a National Treasure. The Chesapeake Bay watershed covers 64,000 square-miles and spans six states (NY, PA, MD, DE, WV, and VA) and DC. Since 1967, CBF’s motto, Save the Bay®, has defined our purpose to the 17 million people who live in the watershed.
On a sunny spring day, the Chespeake Bay is simply beautiful. Beneath the surface, however, dangerous threats to the Bay’s health remain. EPA officially lists the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries as impaired. Health departments caution people to stay out of the water for 48 hours after a heavy rain. Fish consumption warnings continue. And tens of thousands of jobs have been lost in fishing and related industries. Indeed, the Chesapeake Bay is a system dangerously out of balance.
CBF is the Bay's only advocate dedicated to rescuing not only the Bay but the rivers and streams that feed it. We use research, legal action, and education to spotlight the problems confronting the Bay and to hammer out scientifically sound solutions.
Please support CBF today and do your part to help Save the Bay!
