Save the Campbell Club!
Organized by: Jimi Wood
The Campbell Club is one of three houses in Eugene Oregon's Student Cooperative Association. We are a non-profit student housing co-op owned and run by the current residents.
Due to previous SCA members' debts, a recent low membership rate, and sudden unexpected costs of repairing and maintaining such an old house, the SCA currently does not have enough funds for all of our upcoming bills & house payments, not to mention the repairs that need to be made to keep our home functional.
As the house with the lowest membership, the most owed by previous occupants, and the most work to be done to the property, we have just recently been informed that unless we raise the funds, we will likely be shut down and the property leased or sold by March 20th.
We have begun implementing new membership recruitment strategies, and organizing fundraising events on-site, but this will not be enough. Many of the current members, most of us fairly new to the co-op, have been paying for supplies out of pocket, and have been making as many repairs ourselves as possible. We operate entirely on reserves funded through members' rent, and as a group with anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalistic ethics, we do not use collections agencies, and rely solely on email requests sent to previous members to collect delinquent payments. This is why we are now reaching out publicly via crowdfunding.
The Campbell Club has been an institution in the Eugene community for years. The co-op has occupied this property since 1962, and it has been a hub for activists, community organizers, and the music scene. The house provides students with low-cost housing, resources for developing skills, and an environment focused on self-sustainability, responsibility, consensus, and cooperation. This space empowers students to become more active and effective in their community and personal lives. We have hosted hundreds of shows, benefits, open mics, radical film nights, speakers, lectures and workshops, free markets, community meals, and many other events open to the public. We also offer spaces for free school classes, bands to practice, travelers and couch surfers to stay, and groups to meet and organize safely. Our members have organized protests, tree sits, demonstrations, and helped influence city policy. Our alumni have accomplished amazing things while at the co-ops, and have gone on to accomplish even more across the globe. The CC and SCA have always had a strong focus on environmentalism, social justice and personal responsibility, and fighting against systematic oppression.
The current members are dedicated to keeping the Campbell Club's legacy going strong and doing our best to live up to the many accomplishments of our predecessors. If you are able, PLEASE help us continue to use this space to improve and grow as people, students, and as a community.

PS: The SCA IS a non-profit organization, though not a charity. Therefore, we were required to list this fundraiser as an 'individual'. Please rest assured that all donations do indeed go directly to the SCA to benefit the Campbell Club.
PPS: We would also be totally appreciative of any non-monetary help you would like to offer! If you’ve got home improvement skills, tools or household items to lend, a band that would be down to play a benefit show, or anything else you think might help us out, we’d be forever greatful!
