Customize Your Page & Make It Fun For Everyone
The more compelling your page is, the more likely people will stick around to learn about your cause.
• Tell your story. Include personal details about what motivates you to run and fundraise. Let everyone know why your cause is important and why it matters to you.
• Let your donors know the impact they can have. Make their contribution tangible by suggesting amounts that will lead to real life results. For example, a $10 donation will provide one malaria bed net to help an at-risk family in Africa.
• Add lots of great photos and a video, if possible. Put a face on your fundraiser. People are way more likely to donate to a person they can relate to than a cause alone.
• Use deadlines to create some urgency and rally support.
Promote Your Fundraiser | Email, Email, Email
Email and other forms direct messaging drive donations way, way better than social media. The more directly you reach out, the better. Texts or direct messages on social media are more great direct messaging tools.
• If possible, try emailing in batches of 10, not 1,000 or even 100. It makes people feel like you’re reaching out specifically to them and inspires ‘em to donate way more often than sharing posts.
• Make your donors feel cool and appreciated by thanking them and letting ‘em know that you’re so, so grateful for their help.
• Check out the PROMOTE YOUR FUNDRAISER tab for some handy email drafts to use. You can use ‘em as-is, or add your own content to make it more unique to your cause.
Keep ‘Em Updated
Make people feel involved and committed to your campaign by keeping ‘em in the loop.
• Use Facebook and Twitter to update people about your progress toward your goal. Again, try to make it tangible by using specifics about what the money you’ve raised has accomplished so far.
• Have a little fun with it. Ask quirky questions so they’ll respond and feel more like they’re a part of your campaign.
• Find examples of fun, effective social media posts under the PROMOTE YOUR FUNDRAISER tab of this toolkit.
