BENEFITING: American Forests
"I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues" -Dr. Seuss, The Lorax
I am a 10th grader at Edina High School and for a year long assignment for school, I had to choose a problem in the world that I am passionate about. I chose deforestation. Now as part of my action to attempt and solve the problem of deforestation in our world I am trying to raise money to donate to an organization called American Forests that works towards the protection, conservation and re plantation of forests. I intend to kayak the 22 mile Minnehaha creek in its entirety this spring as an action for the money that is donated.
Forests play an crucial unseen role in our everyday lives, which is why we must work towards their protection. Forests provide a home to thousands of species of wildlife, they play a huge role in our economy through recreation and forest supplies, they are crucial to our biodiversity, they purify water and they absorb carbon dioxide- the leading cause of global climate change. Forests have many important roles in life but are being destroyed rapidly through logging, clearing for agriculture land and for development. Our world will become dramatically different if our forests are lost which is why I am doing this fundraiser - to raise money in hopes to help the organizations that work towards forests conservation and to ultimately save the forests.
