THE STORY:

Rob Anger wrote -

This campaign supports Type 1 Diabetics and all donations will support the Juvinelle Diabetes Research Foundation. Type one diabetics suffer with their disease each and every day. Not only do diabetics have to deal with daily injections and blood tests, but even if they manage their disease perfectly they will occassionally get "low" which seems to be a combination of being miserably sick and blacked out drunk. THEN, to top things off, they are at increased risk of all sorts of awful long term damage like amputation, blindness, kidney and liver failure, heart attack... I mean, come on! This starts when T1Ds are kids and is a life long illness. At the turn of the last century humans figured out how to give insulin to patients and that is the last thing we have done! Okay... Okay... there are a few other things but insulin injections are still the treatment at the end of the day. Which sucks. We are better than that. Especially when you realize T1Ds are typically the most positive, awesome people... and, I swear... totally overindex in hotness. It's weird. We will post all the diabetic photos and memes we receive to prove the point. (I am over course referring to the T1Ds who are over 18).

The other goal of this campaign is to bring awareness to the difference between type one and type two diabetes. If for no other reason than if one more person tells my wife "diet and exercise" or says, "well you are not fat?" I may punch them square in the nose. I am going to try to be as sensitive to type 2 diabetics as possible, but you have to understand this is frustrating. I am no Doogie Hauser so please don't message me with my scientific errors. IDGAF. Overall, here is the difference:

Type one diabetes: Genetic disorder, typically starting during childhood, which stops the pancreas from producing insulin completely and it never starts again. Essentially, "dat panc is hella dead". So, from then on, no matter what you eat or how many squats you do, you will always have to give shots of insulin in order to... live... and stuff. Insulin is used by thte body to bring fuel to muscles and feeds off sugar, converting it into something else or whatever... doesn't matter. Fact is, your body won't make it, you didn't do anythign to deserve it, and you're a done deal without shots.

Type two diabetes: This is brought on by age... or more likely, over working the pancreas by eating too much sugar and forcing the pancreas into over production and eventual burn out. Sometimes pills, diet, and exercise can will the pancreas back into normal levels of insulin production. I get it... it's not always people's fault... but the fact is, it is preventable. It is an epidemic. And it has taken the focus/atttention/awareness away from T1D patients who often times were skinny little 4 year olds who aren't even allowed to eat starburst, let alone ALL THE STARBURST... IN THE STATE.... Okay, not sensitive... sorry. Diabetes is a bummer regardless. But, T1D needs the attention and these people deserve a cure. Not a treatment.

My grandma has T2D so please don't send me messages if you are crying about it. Just close this page and keep living your life.  I love you all. I am just worried about my wife.

So, if you are not hating me and you are super pumped off what I am typing, or you just figure you'll deal with me to get involved... right on! There are plenty of things you can do:

Join the team! You don't even need to give me money. Just join us and post the link to this fundraiser were ever you can.. Facebook, Twitter, Insta, Linkedin, tumblr, pintrest, vine, google+, Foursquare, the park (that's not how this works).

Donate: hey scrooge McDuck, stop swimming in coin and toss us a couple. Tax deductable? I don't know but I will come to the house and wash your car if you ask nice and donate enough, and buy me a flight. And help me wash the car.

Send a photo or story: people are going to get sick and tired of me quick. Send us a photo/meme/video/story and I will post it and promote the hell out of it.

Love you all. Why am I approaching this like a total Bro? Becasue it is about time hipsters and bros start actually doing something for our peers and make a difference for peeps who have a tough road and rarely ever bitch.

Right now I am not doing any run or volunteering or whatever, but if you have deep pockets and want to feel like a big man by making me do something like canoe or run or volunteer or dance or whatever, I'm down.
