After 15 years on death row, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan’s life can be saved if $53,000 can be raised as settlement for Zulfiqar to be pardoned by the victims’ family. However, we haven't got much time - ZULFIQAR HAS BEEN GIVEN A WARRANT FOR HIS EXECUTION SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 21, 2013.
We have already raised $13,000 but we need your help to raise the remaining $40,000. Without these funds Zulfiqar faces imminent execution!
Zulifiqar was a decorated officer in the Pakistan Navy for over a decade and he bore sole responsibility for the seven remaining members of his family after his brother was brutally murdered when he was 24.
In 1998, Zulfiqar and his younger brother were attacked by two armed robbers. As a naval officer Zulfiqar carried a gun and, during the attack, he shot the two men in self-defence.
Zulfiqar’s trial was flawed and he was convicted and sentenced to death based on fabricated evidence which his state-appointed lawyer failed to object to.
As a consequence, Zulfiqar has suffered through 15 years on death row. He missed the birth of his second daughter and lost his wife to cancer (because she was unable to afford medical treatment).
Under Pakistani Sharia law, relatives of a murder victim can pardon the accused in return for financial compensation. Thanks to the hard work of the JPP team (www.jpp.org.pk), the family of the victims are now willing to forgive Zulfiqar in exchange for $53,000.
Despite the insufferable conditions of the death cells at Adiala Jail and the on-going trauma of facing execution, Zulfiqar has used his time to educate himself – successfully completing 48 courses in 14 years. Moreover, he has helped educate more than 400 of his fellow inmates.
Do something amazing and help save a man from being executed and his two daughters from becoming orphans. Thank you!
