Allowing kids, who 25 years ago wouldn’t have survived, the opportunity to not only live, but to thrive for the rest of their lives. That’s the change we’re making together.
Nearly 1 in 110 babies are born with congenital heart disease (a baby every 13 seconds!), making it the #1 birth defect in the country. And, it’s a diagnosis that doesn’t just go away, but requires lifelong care.
As an international referral center for kids with complex congenital heart disease, the University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center (U-M CHC) at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital is one of the largest and best pediatric heart programs in the U.S.
The U-M CHC provides the most advanced care for infants, children and adolescents with all forms of heart disease, as well as for adults born with congenital heart defects. Over the past five years alone, nearly 4,000 patients have been sent home from Mott with working hearts.
We aim to lead the way in giving kids with heart defects the best life possible by:
- Creating systems that allow congenital heart survivors to thrive.
- Connecting heart centers across the country to establish standards of care.
- Enabling more research and faster discoveries.
- Providing personalized medicine.
- Jumpstarting development of innovative devices and therapies.
Harnessing our 30-year history pioneering procedures, and building on our specialty expertise, we are truly in a unique position to create the future of congenital heart care.
From February 5 – 12, 2017, we’re conducting our annual congenital heart disease fundraising campaign during national Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week, rallying public support to advance care and research for children with devastating heart conditions, leveraging our substantial strengths to collaborate, innovate, educate, improve, and expand congenital heart care worldwide.
Thanks to the generosity of the Charpie Family Foundation, all donations made during national CHD Awareness Week will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $30,000.

Funds raised through this campaign will enable us to expand our resources and capabilities to drive further scientific discovery forward from the lab to the clinical setting, and to disseminate findings that will benefit children as quickly as possible.
