BENEFITING: Health In Harmony Inc
Thirty years ago a little Indonesian girl named Rina dreamed that one day she would grow up to be a doctor and would save lives. When she was only 6, Rina's school awarded her the certificate of "Doktor Kecil," meaning "Little Doctor."
She is already Dr. Rina, and you can help her complete her residency to become an anesthesiologist. Then she will join her surgeon husband, Dr. Ron, at a new hospital in a village in Kalimantan where, together, they will save lives.
An anesthesiology residency in the U.S. would cost upwards of $150,000. In Indonesia, the cost of completing her residence will be approximately $30,000. Let's get Dr. Rina out there with Dr. Ron, saving lives!
Imagine for a moment that you are a young mother in one of those Borneo villages. Your child has been fussy for a bit, and is suddenly screaming and twisting with pain in his little belly. He has a fever, and you know you must get him to a doctor as soon as possible. You call your husband in from the forest. Together you jump on the motorbike, you holding your child with one arm and your husband with the other. You know it will take over an hour on rough dirt roads to get to the new hospital in Sukadana - and if there is no surgeon or anesthesiologist there, you may have to go by boat for another five hours to a big hospital. Your child is very sick, and you are very scared.
But, if Dr. Rina and Dr. Ron were already at the Sukadana hospital you would know excellent care was closer to home. We all want the very best care for our loved ones, our families. And together, you and I can help make excellent care possible for the tens of thousands of villagers living in the lush jungles near Sukadana.
Dr. Rina will save the lives of many people ("orang" in Indonesian). At the same time, she will save the forests and the lives of the orang utan ("people of the forest") and other creatures who live there because of the unique program at the hospital in Sukadana. People who plant trees on the logged-over hillsides nearby, or who plant organic gardens, earn "green credits" for their care at the ASRI Hospital, thus creating a healthy environment for people and animals. Every single gift, no matter how big or small, will get Dr. Rina closer to being able to save lives of villagers in Borneo. Please, help me help her help them!
Your donation will go to The Residency Scholarship Fund at Health in Harmony, the non-profit which supports the work in Kalimantan, and will be tax deductible.
