Saving Gypsy Starlight
Organized by: Valerie Kennedy
Two young girls, a student and a waitress, came across a neglected mare and rescued her against daunting odds. The medical care costs are significant. The funds will go entirely to pay those medical expenses for Gypsy Starlight, the kind mare who finally may get a chance to have a loving, responsible owner. Gypsy's story:
These girls came to the rescue for a horse…abandoned, sick and alone. The former owner of the horse had cancer and the mare was left to fend for herself in a fenced area filled with rusted out cars and junk. The girls brought her food, fresh water to drink and medicine for the skin issues she had due to being left in the blazing Florida sun, mosquitoes and torrential rain and lightning storms. While they worked toward raising the funds to move her, the worst happened: coyotes backed her into a pile of jagged metal. After trying their big girl best to care for her at home with their limited skills and vet visits - they were told Gypsy needed to be hospitalized to get her best chance at surviving. These girls are students and working full time jobs. The injury is life-threatening: her leg is ripped open exposing muscle, causing tissue damage and a deep-seated infection in her body. With a lot of luck and sheer determination, these girls were able to get the mare moved to an equine hospital. Gypsy Starlight is fighting for her life and the bill is much greater than these good girls can afford to pay. Any amount to help cover this lovely, good-mannered mare would be a kindness that is entirely appreciated by these young women who are trying to the right thing...the kind thing. After a long stream of neglect and uncare, Gypsy Starlight may be able to have her happy ending. Please help us to save Gypsy Starlight.
