Savings for Soumy
Organized by: Ashley Dorr
Thank you for all the support of little Soumy! Everything from FB messages to dog toys to advice and encouragement, you have all been so supportive. As most of you know I stumbled upon Soumy a month and a half ago and though I never intended on having a dog, as fate would have it now I do! I love her dearly but was not expecting the cost of rescuing a dog straight from the street. So I'm just doing a little fundraiser to cover the cost of the initial month of vet bills: the removal of the chain from her neck, wound care, vaccinations, medications, and spaying. Any little amount is greatly appreciated!!!
Soumy survived the streets of Brooklyn on her own until one summer evening when I found her on Dean Street on my way home from work. She was running down the street solo dragging a little chain and upon figuring out she had no owner I took her to Blue Pearl Emergency Vet Hospital where we discovered that the chain was embedded in 50% of her neck and she had an infection. The lovely vets there removed the chain and I took her home that evening. The next day we began bandage changes every other day at Hope Vet Clinic where they treated her with special Manuka honey bandages that began to heal her neck in just a few weeks! She just finished the process of getting all her vaccines and soon she will be spayed. We are so grateful to the Hope Vets also for their good care of her!
Although initially I didn't know if I could keep Soumy, I have fallen fast in love and am doing my best to be a good dog mom, and still keep my work, travel, and life schedule. Thank you to so many who have helped and continue to offer help taking care of her! She is the loveliest little dog with a LOT of personality! Very excited at times, but also really sweet and calm and great around people as well as making lots of dog friends out in Montauk and at home in Brooklyn. She loves chasing birds and bugs and really likes to chill in the Mysore room at The Shala in Fort Greene where many yogi friends give her pets and love after their practice.
Her name Soumya (Soumy for short) means calm and unruffled. She was very calm upon our first encounter but the joke was on me, because she was really just sick at the time, and I came to learn she is normally quite perky! ;)
She is super happy and much healthier and seems to bring joy to most people she meets. I hope you all can meet her someday too!
