Edit as of 7/23 only 1 whale remains. The "baby", 2 yrs old and 600 lbs. was moved to Sea World in orlando, where she will live a happy, safe life. The lone whale, tagged #300 needs at least a year of therapy and rehabilitation. Support for her treatment as well as for the volunteers who are needed 24/7 is appreciated.
EDIT as of 6/25 there are only 2 whales remaining. they need your help more than ever. We are driving down on Thursday, 6/30, to work with them from Midnight to 4 am. We would appreciate your sponsorship as we are unable to run marathons or do anything spectacular for these beautiful animals.
This is one of my few projects that I can witness first hand how much help is needed. Right now, there are 3 surviving beached whales being cared for around the clock at the Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo FL. I had the Privilege of participating in this care, along with many other volunteers. The conditions are spartan. No fancy goody bags or free t shirts for participants. They don't even have "indoor plumbing". Your $$ will go to support their care, rehabilitation and hopefully release back into the wild. I plan to return a few more times this summer, as long as I can afford gas for the 3 hour round trip. Here is more about the whales: http://marinemammalconservancy.org/
