The purpose of this fundraiser is to complete the rebuilding of the Savanna-La-Mar Baptist Church in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica WI. My grandfather, the Reverend Clarence George Whylie pastored this church along with the faithful support of his wife, Mrs. Nellie Whylie for over 30 years. In 2012, a tornado blew down the main building (the sanctuary). The congregation of the church is financially unable to fund the rebuilding of the church without your support.

"Tropical Storm Nicole, which dumped several buckets of water and unleashed its winds on the island last Tuesday and Wednesday of has left several roads and other infrastructural damage, scores of residents without electricity, and the homes of several residents flooded in western Jamaica.
The system started affecting the island as a broad area of low pressure at the start of the week, and by Tuesday it was upgraded to a Tropical Depression, the sixteenth for the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season. A flash flood warning had already been issued for the entire island. On Tuesday evening, our newsroom received reports of a tornado-like phenomenon that hit the Westmoreland capital, Savanna-la-Mar. Chadd-Rick Clarke, a resident of Little London, Westmoreland, was in the town when the freak storm occurred.
“I mean I was there when things started blowing all over the place … people started running for shelter and screaming … one lady’s foot got chopped by a piece of zinc (which was blown by the strong winds),” Clarke revealed.
The Western Mirror’s Westmoreland correspondent, Gillian Larmond, reported that the woman was hospitalized, however, up to press time, the injured woman’s condition could not be ascertained.
Larmond added that a number of utility poles were downed and a number of businesses along Darling, Beckford and Great George Streets were also damaged during the storm. Two of these include the Westmoreland Cooperative Credit Union and the Seven Star Variety Store.
The Savanna-la-mar Baptist Church was split in two by the heavy winds".
