BENEFITING: New Venture Fund
EVENT: #RiseForRohingya
THE STORY:
Who are the Rohinyga and what are they experiencing? The New York Times reports here: "Rohingya Face 'Campaign of Terror' in Myanmar, U.N. Finds".
How many times is too many?
The Holocaust. Rwanda. Cambodia. Darfur... and the list goes on. Why can’t we seem to make #NeverAgain a reality?
We can stop the genocide in Burma before it happens -- but we need to act now.
The Rohingya people of Burma are considered to be the most at-risk of genocide of any group in the world, and since October 9, violence against them has escalated to alarming levels. This Muslim minority suffers from little to no access to healthcare, education, or livelihoods—and over 140,000 currently live in modern-day concentration camps, the work of Buddhist extremists who burned them out of their homes in 2012, and who have systematically oppressed them for years.
We must #RiseForRohingya and build up the next generation of leaders. The Young Leaders Center* in Burma is training young adults in peacebuilding and mentoring them as they create their own projects to lead the way to a more peaceful tomorrow.
100% of funds donated to this page will be granted to the Young Leaders Center* in Burma to:
- Support four young leaders to be a part the Peacemaker Training and Mentorship Program
- Train these Peacemakers to identify and respond to various threats to peace in their communities, focusing on the effects of hate speech
- Assist Peacemakers in brainstorming, developing, and implementing projects to build peace and tolerance in their communities
*Due to security reasons, the names of grantees are altered slightly. All donors will receive updates and reports on the projects funded by this fund and the outcomes in Burma.
