EVENT DATE: Jun 24, 2017
AMOUNT RAISED OFFLINE: $1,850.00
As you know...we're getting married!
If you wish to help us commemorate this occasion, we hope that you will consider donating to two meaningful projects that will help women and children around the world: the Women's Education Project and Surge for Water. We have personally talked to the directors at the Women's Education Project (Zoë Timms) and Surge for Water (Shilpa Alva) and, together, we came up with the following projects to support in lieu of a wedding gift. If every guest chips in $25 ($100 for a family of 4, etc.) then we can raise the $8,000 needed to make these projects a reality.
Our goal is to raise:
- $4,000 for Women’s Education Project to send 12 Hyderabadi girls from low-income families to college for one year in India, including tuition, books, transportation, access to a library and computer lab, and a leadership program. A short video describing WEP's work is here.
- $4,000 for Surge for Water to fix two wells serving around 2,000 people (mostly children) in Uganda, directly impacting the health and economic productivity of the community. Women and children bear the primary responsibility for water collection and can spend up to six hours collecting water from long distances preventing them from going to school or work. You can learn more about their work here.
Zoë Timms, founder of the Women’s Education Project, has agreed to provide reporting on the 12 Hyderabadi students complete with pictures and videos once the project has been completed.
Shilpa Alva at Surge for Water has also agreed to provide a detailed report and pictures of the well work in Uganda and a commitment that 100% of what is raised goes directly to the water projects. Technically, fixing two wells costs $4,600 but Surge for Water will put in the extra $600.
We will send this reporting information to those who have donated. We are planning on personally visiting the women’s center in Hyderabad and hope one day to visit Uganda to see first-hand the impact of these wells!
When you use the CrowdRise website, we will be notified of your donation and you can even leave us a note if you'd like. Individual donation amounts are hidden on the public website, but CrowdRise will help us track our progress toward our goal of $8,000. To get started, click on the "Donate" button.
More information on these organizations, both of which are 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporations, are below including their websites. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you for considering these causes.
See you in June!
