My name is Alam, from Indonesia. I am currently pursuing a graduate degree at Georgetown University with full scholarship from Indonesian government. I enroll in Master of International Development Policy, as I aims to excel my career in international development industry, especially focusing on economic development. I am driven by my interests in small medium enterprise development, intercultural communication, entrepreneurship to traditional arts. Before taking the #gradlife plunge, I studied undergraduate at Universitas Indonesia in 2014, majoring in Economics, and worked for international development agency for almost 2 years.
About my participation in StartingBloc:
I am looking for transformation here in StartingBloc Institute. It is my goal to create a social enterprise to elevate the welfare of small businesses in Indonesia to grow and develop their capacities & capabilities. From my professional experience, I became aware on how important collaboration between government, NGO and private entities to solve the problem of Indonesian SME. Therefore, I feel the importance to understand the policy side as well as the business/ practical side. Hence, I am studying international development at McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University, as a way for me to develop my policy skills in helping those in needs. Meanwhile, I am aware that my practical side still lacks of training. Through the StartingBloc fellowship, I am hoping to acquire a tangible skills to actually create a sustainable social enterprise as well as connecting with other StartingBloc fellows to collaborate in similar initiatives. StartingBloc will be a perfect complement to my training in McCourt.
On October 27, 2016, 90+ StartingBloc Candidates will gather in Washington DC for the DC '16 Institute for Social Innovation. At the DC'16 StartingBloc Institute, Fellows will participate in a series of workshops and activities designed to inspire, instruct, and stretch their limits. They'll learn directly from high impact change leaders, work with proven frameworks for delivering change, and build relationships with a community of lifelong allies.
