Hello all -
As some of you may know I have been recently selected as a StartingBloc Social Innovation Fellow for 2012. What is StartingBloc and why is it important? StartingBloc is a non-profit organization that takes students and young professionals and provides them with the training, education, and networks necessary to lead a socially responsible career, to accelerate their work and to magnify their social impact. StartingBloc Fellows are working across all sectors and 54 countries, creating new solutions to global challenges. And this is the first Fellowship nomination for Greece, a country that now more than never needs global support and lasting social change.
Becoming a StartingBloc Fellow will be instrumental to my current efforts towards solutions and growth for Greece. A few months back I founded Metavallon (“bringing change” in Ancient Greek), a non-profit organization that offers a comprehensive program to educate, mentor and support aspiring entrepreneurs in their path from idea to business launch, securing funds, and first venturing footsteps. Through this program, Metavallon, which just won a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, seeks to establish a supportive structure for early stage entrepreneurship and foster a vibrant, collaborative environment for venturing in Greece.
The StartingBloc Fellowship will help me connect to international networks of dynamic, solution-oriented individuals, who are also working to make their communities and the world around them better through collaboration, cross-sector partnerships and international exchange. I will have the opportunity to show that there are Greeks taking steps to implement solutions to challenges in the country; to form relationships with people from around the world; and to bring new ideas, inspiration and collaboration opportunities from the U.S. and around the world back to our networks and communities in Greece. Last but not least, I will have the opportunity to bring forward and connect our talented venturing community in Greece, young entrepreneurs that against all odds are trusting their own power to create and bring change, and are developing valuable solutions for the country and globally.
I am now fundraising to attend the StartingBloc Institute for Social Innovation in New York this August, which is a pre-requisite to being accepted as a Fellow and become part of this growing international network of innovators. The Institute is a five-day interactive event, where participants meet people, introduce their initiatives, share their ideas, learn how to increase their impact, exponentially, from visionaries like Dan Pallotta and David Bornstein, and see new models on how to do what they love, make money, and change the world.
In order to get there, I need to raise $1,000 for the tuition, and I am hoping you'll help me in these efforts. Anything you can give wil be greatly appreciated, even if it's just continued support. After all, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have in life without all of you.
Every little bit counts!
