BENEFITING: EMPOWER SPINAL CORD INJURY INCORPORATED
The 2nd Annual Stony Brook Dodge for a Cause Dodgeball tournament will be held on Sunday November 16th, at the Campus Recreation Center. All proceeds from the event go directly to Empower Spinal Cord Injury, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering people with spinal cord injuries.
Empower SCI runs a two-week residential rehabilitation program on campus at Stony Brook for people with spinal cord injuries. Participants take part in traditional rehab therapies like PT, OT, education and counseling, as well as a variety of adaptive sports including yoga, surfing, swimming, kayaking, and hand-cycling. Many Stony Brook health science students volunteer as residential aides during the summer program, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience. The organization has a profound impact on the lives of both participants and volunteers, creating a strong sense of community and empowerment among its members.
Stony Brook undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of majors and programs will be coming together in November to vie for bragging rights and the title of 2014 Stony Brook Dodgeball Champions!!! Please support these players and the amazing organization they are dedicating their time and energy to!!
