Hello! My name is Phi Tran. I am a Community Organizer in my hometown of Dorchester, MA at the Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (a.k.a. Viet-AID). Viet-AID’s mission is to build a strong Vietnamese American community in the Greater Boston area and a vibrant Fields Corner neighborhood. We work in asset building, affordable housing real estate, and early childhood development. The organization was created by Vietnamese refugees in 1994 that wanted to build a stronger support system for the community at large in Dorchester, MA. Since starting their new lives in America, they saw that Dorchester and Boston have accepted them with open arms. This will be a great opportunity to continue in the mission to support the community.
The money I raise for Viet-AID will go directly to providing low-income students of color scholarships to help alleviate the fees that the students would have to pay to attend the AMAZING youth summer school program here at Viet-AID (The Viet-AID Summer Program for Youth--V-SPY). We believe in the positive influence of an enriching summer can have on the youth of Dorchester. V-SPY strives to build a strong connection between youth and the rest of their community. Viet-AID's summer school program is not only for Vietnamese students but for all students of all ethnicity who deserve a safe and educational environment to learn academically and socially.
My friend, Chris, and I will bike from Boston to New York (300 miles) from June 3 - 8 in this effort to raise funds for Viet-AID's youth summer program. Please support us on our mission to give back to the community of Dorchester. Thanks!
