Let the seed of love grow - “I have been the manual worker here for 2 years since I graduated from Trade Union University” - “How come? You graduated from university and now you …” - “It is no surprise, many of my friends suffer the same situation” (faint smile) This sentence of a boy I met in Nam Thang Long industrial zone seem to be simple but has made me think of…fairness in this country… The reality is very sad. Identifying that urgent problem, we would like to organize trainings and provide practical skills in English and tourism for those students studying in the universities or colleges so that they can have enough skills to better approach career opportunities. We are supporting 2 students at the moment: Nguyen Van Son was born in Tha village, remote area of Ha Giang province- the province in the North of Vietnam. He is from Tay Ethnic minority group. His mother needs to go to the forest every day to carry wood for selling. His father raises buffalo. They are poor as many other households in the village but they still care much about their children future so they make every effort to let their children go to school. Mai Thi Ly: She was born in an extended family with 5 siblings. She is the youngest one. Her father died when she was 7 years old. Her mother works in the construction every day regardless of rain or sun. She alone raised 5 children and managed to take 3 children go to universities. Ly has nearly dropped out because at that time her mother was sick and cannot afford to it. However finally she found a part-time job as a tutor so she can share the burden with her mother. These two people are our start. We really would like to enlarge this model to many other vulnerable students to help them have brighter future. About 30% graduates are unemployed while many companies complain that they cannot hire enough high-qualified employees (the paradox here is the redundancy of graduates and the insufficiency of qualified staff). It is wasteful of resources when many students after graduating from universities cannot have the relevant jobs. It is more serious for youth from vulnerable group since they were children they did not have the proper access to the education system. Some even have the risk of dropping out because of financial problems. At this moment, we are providing tour service by ourselves to accumulate money to rent but we still need much money to cover all the costs Initially, we need to raise fund so that we can afford to 6 month payment and preliminary operation cost of our office. Details of our needs Monthly office expense (6 months) $3600 20 Chairs: $ 400 2 Tables: $300 1 Book self: $200 1 White Board; $ 100 4 Beds: $ 400 6 Mattress and blanket: $ 600 1 Computer: $ 60 Total: $ 6200 What we do is just little, but we do hope that we can help reduce the number of unemployment rate, criminal rate caused mainly because of those who have not trained and educated well enough and who do not have stable job. $10 or $20 may be small for you but it can be the future for our youth.
