Hi All - the trip to Cox's Bazar was a big success! If you look at the 'profile' photo gallery for the fundraising page you may even see your See More

THE STORY:

Do you remember your school trips as a child? Amazing how excited you could get about visiting a zoo, going to a museum or (best of all) on an overnight trip with your friends and classmates. Now imagine if you had never traveled outside of your home city - you could multiply the joy of a school trip by 1000 (rough estimate :)). The goal of this fundraiser is to send 250 children from the FPP school for slum children on school trips to Cox'z Bazar Beach and the Zoo - to give them an educational opportunity that will stay with them for a lifetime.

After living in Dhaka for 2.5 years, and seeing a fair bit of poverty and destitution in my work and travels, I can truly say that the FPP School and Orphanage are the most positive actions against these dark realities that I have come across. The founder, Pravudan Halder (Dino), grew up with terrible hunger himself and was adopted by a priest, given an education and the basic opportunities of education, shelter and safety that all children should have. Dino has made it his mission as an adult to help as many children as possible to enjoy these same rights - he runs the school, an orphanage for girls (out of his family home), and a tailoring business to support his young family as well. He is constantly strapped for cash, not because he can't earn enough, but because he spends every spare taka / penny on taking care of and expanding the opportunities for the children.

So here is the deal - the kids at the school and the orphanage have never seen the sea or zoo. Many of them are working children, making any trips to broaden their perspectives a distant dream (an unfortunate reality of the students is that they have to work to support their families, luckily the kids in the orphanage do not need to work) . All we need to raise is $960 USD (75,000 Taka in local currency) and we can give a whopping 250 kids the huge smiles that they deserve. Here are the details:

     --> Trip #1 - Cox's Bazar - a coastal town in the south, approximately 12 hour bus ride from Dhaka. 65 Kids in Levels 3,4,5,6 + 5 Teachers. 55,000 taka ($700 USD). 2 days / 1 night.

     --> Trip #2 - Mirpur Zoo, Picnic and Novo Theatre - the zoo in Dhaka followed by a visit to the Novo Theatre with a Planetarium, the kids will go crazy seeing all the wild animals that they've been learning about in school for the first time. 180 Kids in Levels KG, 1, 2. 20,000 taka ($255 USD). 1 day.

Everyone who makes a donation will receive pictures of the kids on their school trips and accounts of how the money was spent. I can also send over a budget beforehand if you want to see it before donating.

Anything helps, let's make this relatively small amount of money make a BIG difference in the lives of these children!! Any questions - please reach out at eric.dales@gmail.com.
