BENEFITING: SCHOOL FUEL
School Fuel wrote -School Fuel began in 2013 as a result of a Bible study on poverty. The original group looked inward to see how our area "faired" on the poverty level. We learned that 85% of children in the San Marcos school district were at that level! Since the parents have community resources provided, we focused on the children with goals of keeping them in school and providing a sack of weekend, nutritious food to assure they would have food at home when school services were not provided. Our program has grown from feeding 31 children in the pilot program to reaching 499 children just 2½ years later. School Fuel has become a community event with over 3000 volunteer hours last school year. There is no paid staff, and no overhead. Our funds strictly go to provide food for the sacks. We would love to have you visit our Facebook page--School Fuel San Marcos to see what we are up to! Our webpage is under construction but you may view it at schoolfuelsanmarcos.org. Your support of a child will cost a mere $20 a month to feed a child for a school year.
