On April 16th, 2012, I will be running the Boston Marathon to raise money for the Greater Boston Chapter (GBC) of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association.
In addition to fulfilling a childhood dream, I will be supporting a cause that is dear to my heart.
As a therapist working with people who have sustained spinal cord injuries, I have witnessed first hand the impact that the GBC can make in people's lives. Through their early intervention, peer visiting, and support group programs, the GBC volunteers help individuals with new spinal cord injuries envision how they will be able to return home and live fulfilling lives in the wake of a devastating injury. In addition to providing emotional support, the GBC also advocates on behalf of persons with spinal cord injuries and provides equipment and wheelchair vans to increase the independence of persons in the community.
I am running because I believe that living with a spinal cord injury can mean living a full productive life, just in a different way. I believe that the GBC gives people the tools to understand how to begin living that life.
I am running because I am inspired by the people with spinal cord injuries who I work with everyday, who take the challenges that life has thrown at them and find a way to keep going.
I am running for those who cannot.
Please support me as I raise money to help this great cause.
