BENEFITING: UPS FOR DOWNS NFP

In 2010 the accumulation of snow on the roof of one of our prefabricated classrooms caused the roof to collapse. We applied to the department of education for funding to have classroom replaced. The dept gave us a grant of €128,000 on condition that the permanent build would replace our existing 2 rented prefabs-one which was now non functioning. Unfortunately unforeseen expenses occurred during the building and we were left with a deficit of €30,000. We have been fundraising non- stop since building was completed in 2011 but to no avail as 60per cent of our parents are unemployed and cannot even afford a voluntary contribution. 33 percent of our pupils have learning difficulties including 2 children with autism . Our teachers purchase classroom materials with their own personal cash. We have an amazing staff and 150 wonderful pupils and we're struggling to pay our bills.
